It may seem redundant to entitle a Haute Couture collection "Artisanal," but for Spring 2014, Maison Martin Margiela defined both terms with a crafty yet couture presentation.
Incorporating referential bits like Mariano Fortuny scraps, Frank Lloyd Wright textiles, and a Paul Gauguin tapestry, the designer delved "into the world of collectors." And since it would be more surprising to not see those masks in a Margiela collection at this point, the real shocker came in the details. What — from a distance — seemed to be a sparkling paillette dress was really encrusted with discarded jewels and trinkets.
