If Bill Gaytten has any say in the matter, your Fall closet will be stocked with muted shades of gray, mustard, teal, rust, and cream. The John Galliano show was generally quite a grown-up affair when it came to separates, with high-waisted pants, fur-trimmed coats, box pleated midi skirts, and long cardigans. Squares were a recurring theme: petal-like details around the waist and laser cuts on top layers of dresses and jackets. The fun came out in dresses, from splashy printed silks to heavier metallics, including a shimmering burgundy-and-teal, knee-length, fit-and-flare number that was the ultimate party dress, and a series of evening gowns with fur trims were split to the thigh in velvet and chiffon combinations.
Many pieces were topped with statement accessories, including long, knitted gloves worn slouched down the forearms and chunky waist belts decorated with giant discs of polished stone. For the very brave, the hats were the perfect finishing touch, whether fluffy, feathered, or timeless chunky knits!
