Urgent news fresh from the fashion front: Forget gray, blank out black—there’s a flare-up of fuzzy-fur logic taking shape before our very eyes! Look at the evidence gleaned over the last few days in London and Milan—both on the street and on the runway.
You can bet this is a trend that’ll be sticking around. Here are two cute and cuddly pastel-colored collections for fall from the relative newcomer Ryan Lo, who showed as part of Fashion East, and the latest starlet of the London runways, Simone Rocha.

And now, lo and behold, here’s Karlie Kloss backstage in Milan, sporting a lovely little furry monster on her bag—just one example of an entire menagerie of petting-toy stars strung onto bags on the Fendi runway.

More indications of Fraggle Rock frenzy popped up at Tom Ford and Antonio Berardi too. Just because it’s high-end mink or fox doesn’t prevent it joining the fun-fur party.

Wondering where this trend sprang from? We can’t go any further without tipping our hats to the originals. Cookie Monster, Elmo, and Grover—fashion idols of the season—you never looked so good!

Thinking back a bit, though, the furry fashion creatures were already mustering in the hills last winter. Meadham Kirchhoff’s multicolored glam-rock fake furs disco-danced along the runway in London this time last year.

And Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi finished off last fall’s Fendi show with two more additions to the monster menagerie:

To see where it really might have started, though, we need to go back still another step. All the girls who fell for Miuccia Prada’s mad, stripy fun-fur stoles in her spring 2012 collection are laughing loudest now. Isn’t it true? Sometimes the craziest investments turn out to be the longest lasting.
