We Want to Live in Oscar de la Renta's Fairy Tale

by

Away from the hustle of Lincoln Center and the West Side studios, Oscar de la Renta presented his Spring 2015 collection to a hushed room of editors and insiders. Then came the "oohs" and "ahhs" when Oscar's first looks hit the catwalk. Emerging from a rose-covered backdrop at ODLR headquarters was the first glimpse of Spring (or Autumn for us in Australia thanks to the reverse seasons), as Oscar sees it — a petal-pink crop top and white floral guipure skirt, topped with a pink- and white-checked coat. Not surprisingly, we saw the season's loveliest interpretation of the midriff-baring top and of gingham print thus far. That's Oscar's polish and femininity at work — even his crop tops will make the girls who wear them stand up straight.
That doesn't mean the line-up is lacking whimsy. Oscar adds romance with broderie anglaise and trims black and white gowns with ostrich feathers, before finishing the collection in a set of peppy Spring-green hues and bright hand-painted flowers. By the finale, we had to take a minute just to catch our breath — but can you blame us? It's enough to make any girl swoon.
