MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA COUTURE A/H 2013

Maison Martin Margiela Artisanal Fall 13

Margiela’s Anonymous Beauty

What we know for sure about unknown Martin Margiela is that he has always been a big fan of recycling. In this “Artisanal” Fall/Winter 2013 Haute Couture collection, the French house wave reworked pieces from other times and places. “There is something captivating and respectful about the process of giving new life to these old clothes”, wrote Tim Blanks about the collection. Indeed, there was a certain respect to the clothes with a history of archival fabrics and embroidered Art Nouveau curtains in silk tulle, seen within the show.

Amongst all the embellishments and embroidery the French house also presented five pieces from its new collaboration with Swarovski. Called “Crystalactite”, the rings, bracelets and hair clips, worn in different ways gave a signature avant-garde touch to the show.

As has become the tradition for an “Artisanal” collection, the faces of the models were covered in highly embellished masks. As Martin Margiela himself never showed his face, the masks reflected the anonymous silent philosophy of the house.
