The jewels within the Jardin à la Française (The French Garden) are influenced by the impeccably designed gardens of Versailles which were created by André Le Nôtre, the landscape architect and gardener for King Louis XIV from 1645 to 1700. Le Nôtre’s landscapes sought to bridle nature, taking her palette of organic exuberance and commanding it, as a painter would, creating an idealized vision of the world where order, control, and above all else, beauty is all that there is to view. The Versailles necklace, with its flowerbeds of pink and yellow diamonds, meanders across the body with a light gesture that belies its importance.
